Naltrexone blocks all opiates binding to opiate receptors in the brain.
Naltrexone implants are the most effective therapeutic weapon against opiate overdose. Whilst being on naltrexone, patients are immune to the effects of all opiates, including heroin and morphine.

For what ever reason, some patients stop taking their naltrexone tablet and place themselves in great risk of overdose if they decide to recommence their opiate intake. Naltrexone implants are not licensed in UK by the MHRA at present due to there not being enough medical data. However, they are available on a Special Access Scheme.
